WLI Holiday Gift Drive for Children: December 3-7

Join United Way’s Women’s Leadership Initiative in giving individual holiday gift boxes to hundreds of infants and young children in the Richmond region who are being served by home visiting programs such as CHIP of Richmond and Healthy Families at Family Lifeline & Quin Rivers Healthy Families.

Getting started is easy:

  • Gather shoe boxes (no big boot boxes, please)
  • Decide on the age and gender for your gift box. Age categories are: Preemie, Newborn to 1 year, 2-3 years or 4-5 years.
  • Fill each box with fun and practical items like: age appropriate books, toys, socks, gloves, hats and underwear.
  • Wrap the top and bottom of the box separately and close with a rubber band(Each box will be opened and checked so please don’t tape closed).

Check out this advice from two WLI Members, Rachel and Ruth. They approached the WLI Holiday Drive from two different perspectives: convenience versus cost-conscious… pictures included!

  • Label with the gender and age.
  • Bring your boxes to United Way anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during our collection week: December 3 through December 7.

We also invite you to join us at the WLI festive sorting party on December 12 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at United Way!

To help us plan logistics, please use the “Register Now” button to sign up to donate gifts and/or attend the sorting party.

Family Lifeline & Quin Rivers, local service providers that run home visiting programs, will pick up the boxes and deliver them to families with children participating in their programs. Make as many boxes as you want to support children in our Community!

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact Heather Wells at (804)775-6482 or email her at [email protected].
